A 4-part reflected image of an explosion behind 2 figures in a convertible

screens touching (video essay exercise)

Made at Embodying the Video Essay camp, July 2023
Exercise prompt: How does focusing on the embodiment of your object change your perspective of it? What does this look and sound like onscreen? What is the relationship between your embodiment as a video essayist and your media object’s embodiment? Where/how/who are you in relation to this embodiment?

I wanted to focus on the seams of scenes and shots touching, through multi-screen and look at how repetition effects the content. I was also drawn to the sound of the bullets when I cut the sound with the image, noticing that the aural power of the gunshot was not with Louise for her first few shots. I mixed up the order of the onscreen explosions too in order to study the effects.
